| The League’s strategic plan includes the following goal: “continuing to explore league expansion beyond 42 teams if possible and benign laying the groundwork for expansion over 2025”. The executive team has reviewed many possible options and has settled on the option presented below. The executive is confident that there is sufficient demand and that we will not have any issue attracting enough players and skips. If we do not have 6 new teams in the first year of an expansion, we can amend the schedule accordingly. The executive is committed to continue our social events at the Ottawa Curling Club and we will explore new seating and dining formats to ensure as many league members as possible can participate. | ||
| Factors | Option 1: Current approachwith 42 teamsand 3 rounds | Option 2: Expansionto 48 teamswith 4 rounds |
| # of Teams & # of Curlers | 42 & 168 | 48 & 192 |
| # of Divisions & # of Teams/Division | 6 Divisions of 7 Teams | 8 Divisions of 6 Teams |
| # of Rounds & Games/Round | 3 Rounds of 6 games = 18 | 4 Rounds of 5 Games = 20 |
| # of sheets per year (not including clinics, funspiels etc) | 378 | 480 |
| Saturdays | Normal weekly schedule has one game on Sat at 2:00, three games on Sunday. Has flexibility to load more games into Saturdays if required. | |
| Byes/Round | 3 | 1 |
| Funspiels/Year | 2 | 1 |
| Saturday Social Events | 3 | 3 |
| Other Considerations Option 2 6 weeks per draw x 4 is 24 weeks – but we only have 23 weekends so one draw needs to be abbreviated into 5 weeks – doable by adding 4 timeslots into Saturdays in addition to the normal 2:00 Saturday draws. In this version of the season calendar we have chosen to abbreviate the second round into five weeks. | ||
